What Does 6IV Mean in Pokemon? Perfect Stats Explained
If you have seen a Pokemon listed as 6IV and wondered what that means, the short answer is simple. All six of its individual strengths are at their maximum: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Players usually call that a Pokemon with perfect IVs.
IVs are only part of the build, though. EVs, Nature, Ability, moves, level, and held item all affect how a Pokemon performs. There are even a few cases where a lower IV is better than a perfect one.
What IVs actually do
IV stands for Individual Value. Every Pokemon has one for each of its six stats. Think of an IV as that Pokemon’s natural potential in a stat. Two Pokemon of the same species and level can have different final stats because their IVs are different.
- HP affects how much damage the Pokemon can take.
- Attack affects physical move damage.
- Defense affects resistance to physical moves.
- Special Attack affects special move damage.
- Special Defense affects resistance to special moves.
- Speed usually helps decide which Pokemon moves first.
In games with the Judge function, a maximum individual strength appears as “Best.” If all six stats are Best, that Pokemon is 6IV.
IVs are not EVs
IVs and EVs both affect stats, but they do different jobs. IVs are the Pokemon’s individual stat potential. EVs are training points assigned through battles, items, or other methods available in that game. Nature is separate again, changing how particular stats grow.
This is why a 6IV Pokemon is not automatically battle ready. It may still need a sensible EV spread, the right Nature and Ability, suitable moves, enough levels, and an appropriate held item.
When 6IV is not the best choice
Most sets are perfectly happy with maximum IVs, but competitive builds sometimes leave one stat as low as possible.
Special attackers may want lower Attack
A Pokemon that only uses special moves does not get much value from its Attack stat. Some players minimize Attack because certain battle mechanics calculate damage using the target’s own Attack. For that build, five perfect IVs and a deliberately low Attack IV can be better than a true 6IV spread.
Trick Room teams may want lower Speed
Trick Room reverses the usual move order while it is active, so slower Pokemon act before faster ones. A Pokemon built for Trick Room may want the lowest possible Speed instead of a perfect Speed IV.
The right IV spread depends on what the Pokemon is meant to do. A perfect build is one with the correct stats for the job, even when one of those stats is deliberately low.
Natural IVs and Hyper Training
In games with Hyper Training, Bottle Caps can make a stat perform as though its individual strength were at the maximum. That works well for battling, but it does not turn the stat into a naturally perfect IV for breeding. The Hyper Trained improvement does not pass to Eggs.
Natural IVs still matter when breeding. Parents with strong IVs give you a better starting point, and a high-IV Ditto can work with many compatible species. A Destiny Knot helps pass more individual strengths from the parents to their Eggs. Breeding and training options vary between games, so check the rules for the title you are playing.
Building a set with the Rawkhet Teambuilder
The Rawkhet Pokemon Teambuilder lets you choose the game, species, Nature, IVs, EVs, moves, and supported advanced options. Pick the stats that suit the set rather than maxing everything by habit.
- Select the correct game and Pokemon.
- Choose a Nature and IV spread for the role you have in mind.
- Add the EV spread and legal moves.
- Generate the completed set.
- Copy the output into the Order Notes for a compatible Custom Pokemon purchase. Do not rewrite the middle of the generated format.
The Teambuilder checks many legality rules, but unusual sets may still need a manual check. Make sure the moves, form, origin, and transfer route are possible in the target game.
Using a 6IV Ditto for breeding
Choose the Ditto listing that matches the game or delivery route you use:
- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ditto Package
- Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Ditto Package
- Pokemon Sword and Shield Ditto Package
- Pokemon Home Ditto Package
A 6IV Ditto makes it easier to breed toward strong natural IVs, but it does not guarantee that every Egg will hatch with six perfect stats. Inheritance still involves chance.
A few common 6IV questions
Does 6IV mean fully EV trained?
No. IVs and EVs are separate. A Pokemon can have six perfect IVs without any deliberate EV training.
Is a 6IV Pokemon automatically legal?
No. IVs are only one part of legality. The species, moves, Ability, form, level, origin, and other details must also be possible in the target game.
Can a Shiny Pokemon also be 6IV?
Yes. Shininess and IVs are separate characteristics, as long as the complete Pokemon is legal for its game and origin.
Is 6IV always better than 5IV?
No. Many builds do not use every stat, and some intentionally minimize Attack or Speed. The better spread is the one that fits the Pokemon’s role.
